ZOGBY SAYS …

John Zogby tells the “Boston Herald” the presidential race is still too close to call.  The pollster doesn’t believe Barack Obama has closed the deal yet.  Zogby compares 2008 to 1980, saying “the Sunday before the election the dam burst, that’s when voters determined they were comfortable with Reagan.”

WAVES OF WISDOM RESPONDS …

Waves of Wisdom believes these folks are about a week behind.  Our electoral vote tracking has been about a week to ten days ahead of the curve.  The voters Zogby is describing, resistant to Obama, seem to be disappearing from the ranks of the undecided, where they had been parked for a while.  A look at the mass of polls shows the number steadily dropping.

McCain and Palin are getting desperate.  They’re trying to paint Obama as a radical in the closing weeks.  It’s a tactic that might’ve worked three weeks ago.  The stark contrast in the demeanor of the two men through two debates seems to have muted such a move’s potential effectiveness.  Obama has looked presidential.  McCain has looked angry and old.

Conventional wisdom says the election will be decided by whether people can reconcile the doubts they may have about Obama.  Waves of Wisdom believes the public’s doubts about McCain, his age, his temperament, and his newly-forged close relationship with President Bush are actually making the difference in the minds of many.

DODGERS @ PHILLIES

Baseball returns tonight as the Phillies host the Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.  FOX coverage begins at 8 PM eastern.  Don’t be fooled by the Dodgers’ 84-and-78 regular season mark … they’re a much different team with Manny Ramirez.  They’re pitching well and getting much needed timely hits.  I’m still inclined to go with the Phillies in seven.  They’re determined to test my loyalty by facing the Rays in the World Series.  Having barely lived through the 1993 experience, it figures the Phils would reappear now.  I suppose the situation calls for a glass half full approach … I guess I can’t lose.  The Rays open their series with the Red Sox tomorrow night at the Trop.
