DOW RESEMBLING CARNIVAL RIDE

DOW JONES INDUSTRIAL AVERAGE

DOW JONES INDUSTRIAL AVERAGE

Is it just me or are stocks beginning to remind you of one of those carnival rides where the bottom falls out?  Maybe it’s more like hanging on to a bungee cord and flailing about as you bounce up and down.  Enter the calm, reassuring voice of President Bush this morning, weighing in on global finance.  The Dow crashed the eight thousand mark for a time, but has rallied back above 83-hundred.  One can only guess what the rest of the day will bring.  It’s worth noting the Dow is 40% off last year’s high.

ELECTORAL UPDATE MONDAY

Waves of Wisdom will release another update on the state of the race Monday.  I have to admit to being very curious about what I will find.  McCain’s last lead was a week or so after choosing Palin.  Obama’s margins have significantly increased in each of the last two, leading most to believe he’s probably reached some sort of a ceiling.  We shall see.

PHILLIES GRAB NLCS OPENER

The Phillies used a three-run sixth to take the first game of the National League Championship Series last night in Philadelphia.  The Dodgers had been in complete control until Rafael Furcal’s throwing error gave the Phils an opening.  Chase Utley’s two-run homer off Derek Lowe would tie it.  Pat Burrell’s blast two batters later would prove to be the game winner.  The two teams are back at it this afternoon at 4:35 on FOX.  Los Angeles will throw Chad Billingsley at the Phils’ Brett Myers.

ALCS … TROP STYLE

TROPICANA FIELD

TROPICANA FIELD

St. Petersburg steps onto the American League Championship Series stage tonight, as the Rays host the Red Sox in the opener.  The baseball watching public will again receive a crash course in the bizarre ground rules in play at the Trop.  From its rings of cat walks to its on-field bullpens … the Trop brings a whiffle ball sort of feeling to the postseason.  The series itself figures to be a classic.  Daisuke Matsuzaka and James Shields draw the nod tonight at 8:30 on TBS.
